The Leadership Rockwall Class of 2022 went to school in February. The fine folks at the Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy hosted the group all day at the state-of-the-art campus.
The day started with a brief welcome from the Rockwall ISD Foundation followed by a tour of the campus. As the tour was during regular hours, the cohort got to see some of the amazing facilities and programs at work, including an amazing emergency medical services training room with a very lifelike artificial cadaver, a fully-equipped news studio, and an architectural design classroom that could have easily been on a college campus. It was all very interesting and everyone agreed that our county is fortunate to have such a resource.
After the tour, we were treated to a delectable lunch created by the students of the culinary program at Crave Café. The friendly service, delicious food, and hip atmosphere explain why the culinary program has earned multiple state championships. Did you know that the Crave Café serves the public one Friday per month during the school year? If you have not tried it, it is highly recommended.
With lunch concluded, Rockwall ISD Superintendent Dr. John Villarreal presented the district’s detailed plans for improving and explaining the facilities over the next several years to accommodate the explosive growth in Rockwall and to position the ISD to continue to be the best school district in the DFW area.
The group then met to finalize details related to the approved community service project for this year’s class: The Grove at Lofland Park. Mark your calendars for the big reveal, which is scheduled for the afternoon of April 29 at the park! The group can’t wait to honor its sponsors and present the renovated park to the community that day.
